Over the past 25 years, Thievery Corporation has significantly influenced the genre of electronic music, making their principles of self-determination and inclusion key topics of social discussion. After numerous highly acclaimed albums, remix LPs and rousing live performances that have thrilled audiences worldwide, Thievery Corporation's music and message are more relevant and meaningful today than ever before. In June 2024, the electronic duo will be coming to Germany for two concerts, accompanied by renowned musicians. Thievery Corporation will perform on 29 June 2024 in Cologne at Carlswerk Victoria and on 30 June 2024 in Berlin at Huxleys.
Independence is a decisive factor in Thievery Corporation's long-lasting and fruitful career. When co-founders Rob Garza and Eric Hilton joined forces in Washington DC in 1995 due to their shared love of Brazilian music, it was the local punk scene that served as their guiding star. Hilton explains: "Ian MacKaye and his DIY philosophy are our role models. We modelled ESL Music on Dischord Records and ran our label and our contracts in a similar way." Garza agrees: "Our independence has allowed us to be successful for 25 years. We never had a boss and never needed anyone else's approval. We always said what we had to say, without filters."
