Last August marked the 30th anniversary of the release of The Breeders' legendary hit album "Last Splash". Not only did the band go platinum for it, but it also made history in the rock genre. "Cannonball" is undoubtedly one of those iconic rock songs that fans instantly recognise thanks to its distinctive bass line and the guitar riff that builds on it.
The band, which describes itself as a "3/4 American rock 1/4 English post-punk band based in Dayton, Ohio", was founded in 1988 when the bassist of the Pixies, Kim Deal, and the guitarist of Throwing Muses, Tanya Donelly, were temporarily no longer in the mood for their main bands. Donelly left the band after the acclaimed first album "Pod" and was replaced by Kim's sister Kelley. Together with bassist Josephine Wiggs and drummer Jim Macpherson, they then recorded their masterpiece.
