**Simple Minds** is a Scottish rock band that was founded in Glasgow in 1977 and is one of the most influential bands of the 1980s. The group was founded by singer Jim Kerr and guitarist Charlie Burchill and quickly became a major act in post-punk and new wave before gaining worldwide fame with their catchy, melodic rock sound. With their album *New Gold Dream (81-82-83-84)* (1982), they achieved their international breakthrough and established themselves as one of the driving forces of synth rock.
Their greatest success came in 1985 with the song *Don't You (Forget About Me)*, which was written for the soundtrack of the cult film *The Breakfast Club*. The song made the band internationally famous and became a timeless hit that is still associated with the 80s and the typical sound of the era. The album *Once Upon a Time* (1985) brought further hits such as *Alive and Kicking* and *Sanctify Yourself*, which cemented Simple Minds as one of the most popular bands of their time and brought them huge concert successes.
To this day, Simple Minds have a loyal fan base and regularly release new music that draws on their classic sound while incorporating contemporary influences. Their concerts are a mix of nostalgia and musical passion, where they perform not only their hits but also newer songs. Jim Kerr and Charlie Burchill, the two founding members, remain at the heart of the band and carry on Simple Minds' legacy as one of the most influential bands of the 80s.
