Seasick Steve

Seasick Steve, real name Steve Wold, was born on 19 March 1951 in Oakland, California. He is an American blues musician. Steve Wold comes from a dysfunctional family background. When he was four years old, his parents separated and he left home at the age of 14. He travelled around as a "hobo" (migrant worker) and kept his head above water with odd jobs, but also ended up in prison several times.

He worked as a musician with well-known blues musicians, having learnt to play the guitar as a child. He often worked as a studio assistant in recording studios and gained experience as a sound engineer. In the early 1990s, he settled in Seattle as a studio musician and worked with bands such as Bikini Kill and Modest Mouse.

Steve Wold, who had always travelled a lot even in his older years and had frequently changed his place of residence, settled down with his Norwegian wife in her home country after suffering a heart attack in the 2000s. It was not until he was over 50 that he recorded his first album in 2004. The album "Cheap" was released together with his Swedish backing band Level Devils. Two years later, he released a solo album entitled "Dog House Music".

Seasick Steve's blues songs mainly deal with his hobo days and his own experiences and tell autobiographical stories. On both albums, he also tells stories without music, including about a dog that accompanied him for some time and left him a dozen puppies.
