Mike + The Mechanics is a band of the British songwriter and Genesis guitarist Mike Rutherford. The group was founded in 1985 and released in its first phase until the death of the singer Paul Young five studio albums in July 2000, which were commercially successful.
Originally, Rutherford was looking for an artistic niche to make more experimental and contemporary music. The self-titled debut album "Mike and the Mechanics" featured a diverse line-up of vocalists, including the later permanent members Paul Carrack and Paul Young. The band achieved great fame with hits such as "The Living Years" and "Over My Shoulder".
