Lynyrd Skynyrd

Lynyrd Skynyrd is one of the best-known and most influential bands in Southern rock, having shaped the musical landscape since the 1970s with their blend of blues, country and rock'n'roll. Founded in 1964 in Jacksonville, Florida, by Ronnie Van Zant, Gary Rossington and Allen Collins, the band developed their unmistakable sound, characterised by polyphonic guitar arrangements and honest, down-to-earth lyrics. Their debut album "(Pronounced 'Lĕh-'nérd 'Skin-'nérd)" from 1973 brought classics like "Free Bird" which quickly became hymns.

The biggest success came in 1974 with the song "Sweet Home Alabama"who appears on the album "Second Helping" and became the unofficial anthem of the American South. With hits like "Gimme Three Steps", "Simple Man" and "Saturday Night Special" the band gained a loyal fan base. However, their success was overshadowed by a tragic plane crash in 1977, in which singer Ronnie Van Zant, guitarist Steve Gaines and several crew members died.

After a break of several years, Lynyrd Skynyrd reformed in the 1980s with Johnny Van Zant, Ronnie's younger brother, as singer. Since then, the band has released numerous albums and continues to tour successfully. Despite the loss of several founding members, Lynyrd Skynyrd remains a legendary Southern rock institution whose music has inspired generations and whose legacy is indelible in rock history.
