Emeli Sandé

Soulful pop blending R&B, gospel and grand, emotional ballads

Emeli Sandé combines soul, R&B and pop with classic gospel and piano influences. Her music thrives above all on her powerful, expressive voice, emotional melodies and grand, anthemic choruses. Her repertoire ranges from quiet ballads to high-energy songs with a much stronger soul and pop influence.

The themes of her songs often centre on love, relationships, hope, self-determination and social issues. Her lyrics frequently convey a positive and encouraging message, but can also be characterised by vulnerability and personal experiences. A particularly distinctive feature is the combination of emotional storytelling with a powerful vocal performance.

When performing live, Emeli Sandé is renowned above all for her extraordinary voice and intense musical performances. The piano, band and backing vocals provide the backdrop for some truly soulful moments, whilst her expressive stage presence heightens the emotional impact of the songs. Her ballads, in particular, create a powerful, immediate atmosphere when performed live.

With her blend of soul, pop and R&B, Emeli Sandé is one of the most influential British singers of her generation. Her powerful voice, her classic songwriting and her ability to make both personal and social issues musically accessible have secured her a firm place on the international pop and soul scene.
