Between daydreams and retro vibes
Dope Lemon is the musical solo project of Australian singer-songwriter Angus Stone, who is also known to many as one half of the sibling duo Angus & Julia Stone. With Dope Lemon, Stone takes a different, more experimental direction and combines dreamy indie rock with elements of psychedelia, folk and vintage pop. The sound is characterised by laid-back grooves, smoky guitars and an atmosphere reminiscent of a warm summer's day.
The project emerged in 2015 from spontaneous jam sessions with friends at Stone's farm studio in Byron Bay. 2016 saw the release of the debut album Honey Boneswhich quickly achieved cult status with songs such as "Uptown Folks" and "Marinade". This was followed by Smooth Big Cat (2019), Rose Pink Cadillac (2022) and Kimosabè (2023), all of which demonstrate Stone's flair for nostalgic soundscapes and modern production. The new album was released on 9 May 2025 Golden Wolfwhich heralds a funky, cinematic sound with the single "Sugarcat".
Dope Lemon stands for a musical aesthetic that oscillates between daydream and road trip - relaxed, charming and full of retro flair. For fans of Tame Impala, Mac DeMarco or Khruangbin, Dope Lemon is a worthwhile discovery.
