With his current album "Gott of Schlager", the entertainer returns to his characteristic style and emphasises: "Words alone cannot capture this album. The title 'Gott of Schlager' is just an attempt, but will forever remain incomplete...". And he is right:
The very first track, "Hier ist Party", shows that the time for rock'n'roll is over: elements of classic disco music merge with modern chanting. In "Wie der Wind", Steiffen deals with themes such as freedom, digestion and transience in a country song that escalates into psychedelic spheres. In "Schöne Menschen", he takes aim at the beauty mania from the Brothers Grimm to the present day. The autobiographical piece "Ich breche in die Nacht" describes a night and sheds light on thirst and homesickness as well as nausea and society. "Verliebt Verlobt Verheiratet Vertan" is a song that speaks for itself, followed by classic themes of German-language chanson such as Schützenfest, seafaring, New Year's Eve, punk music and, of course, carnival.
