Bloc Party is a British indie rock band that was founded in London in 1999 and released its debut album Silent Alarm (2005) became internationally recognised. The band, consisting of singer and guitarist Kele Okereke, combines energetic guitar riffs with electronic influences and socially critical lyrics. Especially the hits Banquet and Helicopter characterised the indie scene of the 2000s.
In the years that followed, Bloc Party experimented with different sounds, from electronic-influenced tracks on Intimacy (2008) to rockier sounds on Hymns (2016). Despite several breaks and line-up changes, the band remained true to their style and returned in 2022 with the album Alpha Games which returned to their early, raw sounds.
With their mixture of post-punk, new wave and modern indie sounds, Bloc Party have built up a loyal fan base and are still regarded as one of the most influential bands in the British indie rock scene. Their energetic live performances and profound lyrics have made them a permanent fixture in the musical landscape.
