Caleb Shomo, the band's founder, first found an outlet for his pain through music in 2013. Beartooth began as an outlet for his suppressed anger and depression, a personal diary in the form of songs he recorded alone in his basement studio. Originally, he had no intention of diving back into the world of heavy music that had burnt him as a teenager.
A decade later, the various parts of his oeuvre merge in title, sound and spirit. With his fifth album "The Surface", Caleb Shomo closes this era in 2023 and simultaneously ushers in a new chapter characterised by surprising optimism. Caleb is ready to bask in the light as he speaks honestly about his long-standing struggles with depression. Still, Beartooth remains a one-man band in the studio, much like Nine Inch Nails.
