Animals as Leaders is an American progressive metal band founded in 2007 by virtuoso guitarist Tosin Abasi. Known primarily for their instrumental compositions, the band combines elements of progressive metal, djent, jazz and electronic music to create a unique, complex and technically challenging sound. In addition to Tosin Abasi, the band consists of guitarist Javier Reyes and drummer Matt Garstka, who are all recognised for their exceptional musical abilities.
Their self-titled debut album, released in 2009, immediately brought Animals as Leaders to the attention of the progressive and instrumental music scene. The album, written and recorded mostly by Abasi herself, set new standards for guitar music by combining challenging polyrhythms, unusual time signatures and a mix of heavy metal riffs and melodic passages. Abasi's masterful use of the eight-string guitar and his innovative playing style have made him one of the most respected guitarists on the modern metal scene.
Since then, Animals as Leaders has released several successful albums, including "Weightless" (2011), "The Joy of Motion" (2014) and "The Madness of Many" (2016). Each album shows the band's ongoing musical development, constantly pushing boundaries and exploring new musical possibilities.
