A look at the past six decades of music history clearly shows how certain things can exert an incredible power over people, especially when they are reduced to the essentials. An outstanding example of this is the riff. With just 10 to 20 well-placed notes on an electrically amplified guitar, musicians can send audiences into ecstasy and reproduce them at will thanks to their recognisability. Andrew Stockdale, the man behind the hard rock project Wolfmother, epitomises this power in an impressive way. For around 20 years, he has been delivering succinct rock riffs en masse with Wolfmother and regularly thrills crowds at live performances.
The Australian has made a name for himself as an uncompromising trailblazer who always goes his own way. Wolfmother's debut album was an overwhelming success and achieved double platinum status. The band played at renowned festivals such as Hurricane, Roskilde, Rock am Ring and im Park, performed at Live Earth, appeared in iPod adverts and even won a Grammy in the "Best Hard Rock Performance" category. Most recently, Stockdale released Wolfmother's pandemic album "Rock Out" in 2021, with the help of a 19-year-old student from the neighbourhood.
