Wardruna is a Norwegian music group specialising in the reinterpretation of old Nordic music and traditions. The band was founded in 2003 by Einar Selvikalso known as Kvitrafn, who was previously the drummer in the black metal band Gorgoroth. Wardruna's music combines traditional Nordic instruments such as tagel harp, kraviklyra and bone flutes with nature sounds, ritual chants and epic compositions to create a deep, atmospheric soundscape.
The band was particularly recognised for its "Runaljod" trilogy which thematically deals with the runes of the older Futhark. With albums like Gap var Ginnunga (2009), Yggdrasil (2013) and Ragnarok (2016), Wardruna brought old Norse spirituality and history into the modern world of music. They gained even greater popularity through their involvement in the successful TV series "Vikings"in which Einar Selvik not only contributed songs, but also performed as a musician himself.
Wardruna has built up an international fan base with her unique blend of traditional Nordic music and modern sound aesthetics. Their live performances are often spiritual experiences in which music, nature and mysticism merge to create an intense atmosphere. With more recent albums such as Kvitravn (2021), the band continues its journey and remains one of the most important formations in the field of Nordic folk and ritual music.
