Unholy

Unheilig was a German band that was founded in 1999 and officially disbanded in 2016. Their musical style combined elements of rock, pop and electronic music with melancholic and profound lyrics. The distinctive voice of frontman Der Graf, who was also a singer, songwriter and producer, had a decisive influence on the band's sound. Initially still strongly anchored in the dark wave and electro scene, Unheilig developed into one of the most successful German rock bands over the years.

The band's big breakthrough came in 2010 with the album Great freedomwhich stayed in the German charts for over 100 weeks and was honoured with several platinum awards. Especially the single Born to live became one of the best-known German-language songs of the 2010s. In the following years, Unheilig released further successful albums such as City lights (2012) and Summit climber (2014), which also stormed to the top of the charts.

In 2014, Der Graf announced that they would retire from the public eye, and in 2016 the band played their farewell tour. The last album From person to person was also released in 2016 and marked the end of Unheilig. Despite their departure, the band remains unforgotten thanks to their emotional songs and profound lyrics, and their music is still appreciated by many fans.
