Thomas Baptist "Tom" Morello, born on 30 May 1964 in Harlem, New York City, is an American guitarist and singer. He became known as the guitarist in the crossover band Rage Against the Machine and played in the alternative rock band Audioslave. Morello is also known for his political activity and is a co-founder of the Axis of Justice and a member of the Industrial Workers of the World.
Morello is known for his unique guitar style, which combines elements of alternative rock, funk, metal and hip-hop. He is known for his influential use of effects pedals and innovative techniques such as the "killswitch" and the "toggle switch solo".
After a Rage Against the Machine reunion tour, Tom Morello focussed on his solo career as a guitarist again from 2018 and released his debut album "The Atlas Underground", which was followed by the next album "Comandante" in 2020.
Morello was listed in Rolling Stone magazine as one of "The Top 20 New Guitarists" and is number 40 on Rolling Stone's list of the "100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time".
In 2024, Morello will give an exclusive solo concert in Germany. On 26 June 2024, the US musician will play a show at the Live Music Hall in Cologne as part of his short European tour.
