Roxette

Roxette was a Swedish pop duo, consisting of Marie Fredriksson and Per Gessle, who achieved international fame in the 1980s and 1990s. Founded in 1986, Roxette quickly became one of the most successful pop acts in the world. With their catchy mix of pop, rock and ballads, they achieved their breakthrough with the song *The Look* from their album *Look Sharp!* (1988). Further hits such as *Listen to Your Heart*, *It Must Have Been Love* and *Joyride* followed and made them superstars of the 90s.

Roxette were particularly known for their ability to combine powerful ballads and energetic pop songs, which were carried by Marie Fredriksson's strong, emotional voice and Per Gessle's outstanding songwriting. *It Must Have Been Love* also achieved cult status through its use in the film Pretty Woman and is one of the band's biggest hits. In total, Roxette sold over 75 million records worldwide and played a decisive role in shaping the pop music of this era.

Despite health setbacks, particularly Fredriksson's cancer diagnosis in 2002, the band remained active into the 2010s and continued to release albums. Marie Fredriksson passed away in 2019, but Roxette's musical legacy lives on and remains an integral part of pop history. Their timeless hits are still loved and played by fans all over the world.
