Rise Against

**Rise Against** is an American punk rock and hardcore punk band formed in Chicago in 1999. The band consists of Tim McIlrath (vocals, guitar), Joe Principe (bass), Brandon Barnes (drums) and Zach Blair (lead guitar). Known for their political and socially critical lyrics, Rise Against's music often deals with topics such as injustice, environmental protection, animal rights and social grievances. Their sound combines aggressive, fast punk rhythms with melodic choruses and energetic live performances, which has earned them a loyal fan base.

Rise Against's commercial breakthrough came with their album *Siren Song of the Counter Culture* (2004), which produced the hit single *Give It All*. This was followed by other successful albums such as *The Sufferer & the Witness* (2006) with hits like *Prayer of the Refugee* and *Swing Life Away*. The band managed to pack politically charged messages into accessible and catchy songs, making them one of the leading punk rock bands of their time.
