Marillion

Marillion is a British rock band formed in 1979 in Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire. The band is known for its influence on the neo-progressive rock genre and has built up a loyal fan base over the course of its career. Marillion's music is characterised by complex arrangements, poetic lyrics and a deeply emotional performance that combines both classic progressive rock elements and modern influences.

The early phase of the band was characterised by the charismatic frontman Fish (Derek William Dick), who was with Marillion from 1981 to 1988. During this time they released some of their best-known albums, including "Script for a Jester's Tear" (1983), "Fugazi" (1984) and "Misplaced Childhood" (1985). "Misplaced Childhood", which also contains the hit "Kayleigh", helped the band achieve their commercial breakthrough and is still regarded as one of the most important albums in progressive rock.

After Fish's departure from the band, Steve Hogarth took over the role of singer in 1989. With Hogarth, the band's musical style changed and became more accessible without losing its progressive soul. Albums such as "Seasons End" (1989), "Brave" (1994) and "Marbles" (2004) show the band's evolution and their ability to constantly reinvent themselves. Marillion is also known for their innovative use of the internet to market their music directly to their fans and fund their projects long before crowdfunding became mainstream. This direct connection to their followers has helped keep Marillion relevant and appreciated even after more than four decades in the music business.
