Lionel Richie

**Lionel Richie** is an American singer, songwriter and music producer who is considered one of the most successful and influential artists in pop and soul music. Born in Tuskegee, Alabama in 1949, he began his music career in the 1960s as a member of the funk and soul band *The Commodores*, with whom he had hits such as *Easy*, *Three Times a Lady* and *Brick House*. Richie's gentle voice and his talent for soulful ballads quickly made him the band's figurehead.

In the early 1980s, Richie embarked on a hugely successful solo career that made him a worldwide superstar.
