Khruangbin

**Khruangbin** is an American band from Houston, Texas, known for their distinctive blend of funk, soul, psychedelic rock and world music. The band was founded in 2010 by bassist Laura Lee, guitarist Mark Speer and drummer Donald "DJ" Johnson. The name *Khruangbin* means "aeroplane" in Thai and reflects the international influences in their music. Khruangbin combines psychedelic guitar riffs with groovy basslines and laid-back rhythms to create a dreamy, atmospheric sound that is heavily inspired by music from different cultures, particularly Thailand, the Middle East and Latin America.

Their debut album *The Universe Smiles Upon You* (2015) immediately attracted attention in the indie music scene as it offered a relaxed, almost hypnotic soundscape that stood out from traditional Western music forms. This was followed by the albums *Con Todo El Mundo* (2018) and *Mordechai* (2020), which cemented their reputation as one of the most original bands in the modern music business. In particular, *Con Todo El Mundo*, with its strong Latin American influences, brought the band international recognition. Tracks like "Maria También" and "Cómo Me Quieres" show their ability to interpret cultural sounds in a unique way and bring them to a global audience.

Khruangbin is also known for their minimalist aesthetic and stylised live performances, where the band members often appear in retro outfits and wigs. Their concerts are mostly instrumental and create an immersive, almost meditative atmosphere.
