Jamiroquai

**Jamiroquai** is a British band that conquered the international music scene in the early 1990s with its innovative sound, a mixture of funk, acid jazz and dance. The band was founded in London in 1992 by singer and frontman Jay Kay, whose distinctive hat style and energetic stage presence became their trademark. With their debut album *Emergency on Planet Earth* (1993), they already made a strong statement, not only musically, but also in their socially critical lyrics on topics such as the environment and society.

Musically, Jamiroquai is known for their groovy sound, which is strongly inspired by the funk and disco of the 1970s, but refined with modern elements such as acid jazz and electronic beats. Their worldwide breakthrough came with the album *Travelling Without Moving* (1996), which produced hits such as *Virtual Insanity* and *Cosmic Girl* and won several awards. The creative music video for *Virtual Insanity* in particular, which plays with optical illusions, achieved cult status and made Jay Kay and the band internationally famous.

Over the years, Jamiroquai has secured itself a firm place in the music scene thanks to its willingness to experiment and constant development. The band is regarded as a pioneer of modern funk and has built up a broad fan base worldwide. Despite changing band members, Jamiroquai remains active to this day under Jay Kay's leadership and brings a breath of fresh air to the music scene with its unmistakable sound and energetic performances.
