Franz Ferdinand

Franz Ferdinand is a British indie rock band that was founded in Glasgow, Scotland, in 2002. The group consists of Alex Kapranos (vocals, guitar), Bob Hardy (bass), Julian Corrie (keyboards, guitar) and Audrey Tait (drums). They became known for their energetic sound, which combines elements of post-punk, dance rock and art pop. Their name is a reference to the Austrian Archduke Franz Ferdinand, whose assassination triggered the First World War.

Franz Ferdinand achieved their international breakthrough in 2004 with their single Take Me Outwhich became a classic of the indie rock era. The accompanying self-titled debut album was a commercial and critical success, earning the band a Mercury Prize and several Grammy nominations. Albums like You Could Have It So Much Better (2005) and Tonight: Franz Ferdinand (2009) cemented their reputation as one of the most influential indie bands of the 2000s.
