"Blackbird" is making a comeback! Exactly ten years after its release, Fat Freddy's Drop reached out to a few acquaintances to work on remixing a track from their magnificent album. The result is a fabulous remix/dub version that captures the spirit of the original work while adding new and exciting sounds to the relaxed vibe of the New Zealanders. Take, for example, The KBCS' version of the title track (and watch the accompanying video), which FFD describes as "hazy psychedelic funk in the garden, Hamburg grooves via Berlin's Sonar Kollektiv." This remix not only showcases the band's creativity but also relieves them from the pressure of recording a new album, allowing them to focus on what they love most - touring and throwing parties on stage.
This summer, Fat Freddy's Drop toured Europe, culminating in an epic five-hour party at the Berlin Waldbühne alongside Tash Sultana. Since their debut album "Based On A True Story" - certified eleven times platinum in their homeland of New Zealand! - the collective has been known for their relaxed grooving dub-reggae infused with cool funk, strategically placed hip-hop beats, and all without a drummer! Producer and DJ Fitchie takes care of that. Jazz and folk influences, along with bluesy brass sections, add depth to their unique blend. Add Joe Dukie's extremely cool vocals to the mix, and you have sprawling and chill masterpieces that drip effortlessly from the speakers, both relaxed and danceable.
