The W - Between rock, rebellion and reflection
Der W is the solo project of Stephan Weidner, better known as "Der W", the former bassist, lyricist and leader of the legendary German rock band Böhse Onkelz. After the temporary dissolution of the Onkelz in 2005, Weidner embarked on a new musical path with his solo project. He remained true to his rebellious attitude and his distinctive writing style, but expanded his sound to include modern rock and metal elements as well as personal, often profound themes.
The first album was released in 2008 Faster, higher, Weidnerwhich entered the German charts at No. 2 and set the tone for his solo work: energetic guitar riffs, personal lyrics between self-doubt, social criticism and hope, and an unembellished authenticity. This was followed by albums such as Autonomy! (2010) and IV (2012), which further cemented his status as a serious solo artist in German rock.
Live, Der W convinces with a strong band behind him, an impressive stage presence and a loyal fan base that knows him from his Onkelz days and appreciates his independent development. Although he is active again with his old band after the reunion of the Böhsen Onkelz, Der W remains an important channel of expression for Weidner's personal view of the world - raw, honest and with a lot of heart.
