Arch Enemy is a Swedish melodic death metal band founded in 1995 by guitarist and songwriter Michael Amott. The band is known for its combination of hard, aggressive riffs, melodic guitar passages and powerful growls that characterise the genre. Arch Enemy achieved international fame with albums such as Wages of Sin (2001) and Anthems of Rebellion (2003), which established the band as one of the leading forces in melodic death metal.
A defining moment in the band's history was the change to Canadian singer Alissa White-Gluz in 2014, who replaced Angela Gossow as frontwoman. White-Gluz brought a new dynamic and energy to the band, as the album War Eternal proved impressively. Arch Enemy is known for its profound and often socially critical lyrics, which deal with topics such as freedom, individuality and resistance to oppression.
With an impressive discography and intense live performances, Arch Enemy has built a loyal fan base worldwide. Their latest album Deceivers (2022) shows that the band is far from having reached its creative peak. Arch Enemy remains a driving force in modern metal, setting standards both musically and visually.
