The Funk Doctor of East Coast Rap

Redman, whose real name is Reginald Noble, is one of the most distinctive voices of East Coast hip-hop in the 90s. Born in Newark, New Jersey, he made a name for himself early on with his unconventional style, sharp wordplay and unmistakable humour. His career took off when he became part of the legendary Def Jam label and released his debut album Whut? Thee Album a wild, funk-soaked mix of battle rap, absurd humour and raw street reality.

His sound is strongly influenced by funk, which also earned him the nickname "Funk Doctor Spock". Redman is not only known for his solo projects, but also for his long-standing and successful collaboration with Method Man (Wu-Tang Clan). Together they formed one of the most legendary rap duos, releasing albums such as Blackout! and were inspired by the cult film How High also became famous beyond the hip-hop world.

To this day, Redman is considered one of the most technically skilled and charismatic rappers of his era. He always remained true to himself - uncompromising, humorous, full of energy - and influenced generations after him.
