The Maccabees were a British indie rock band from London who secured a firm place in the British music scene with their unique sound and poetic lyrics. Formed in 2004, the band consisted of Orlando Weeks (vocals), Hugo White (guitar), Felix White (guitar, vocals), Rupert Jarvis (bass) and Sam Doyle (drums). With their debut album "Colour It In" (2007), they quickly gained attention, mainly thanks to hits like "First Love" and "Toothpaste Kisses"which characterised their melodic and catchy style.
Over the course of their career, The Maccabees developed musically and experimented with more complex arrangements and more profound themes. Albums like "Wall of Arms" (2009) and "Given to the Wild" (2012) showed an atmospheric and more mature side of the band and received rave reviews. Their latest album, "Marks to Prove It" (2015), was a resounding success and demonstrated their ability to combine emotion and musical sophistication before they surprisingly announced their break-up in 2016.
Although The Maccabees are no longer active, their influence on the indie rock scene remains palpable. Their music, often characterised by introspective lyrics and dynamic guitar sounds, is appreciated by fans and critics alike. The members are now pursuing different creative projects, but the legacy of The Maccabees lives on in their timeless albums and unforgettable live performances.
