The Smashing Pumpkins

The Smashing Pumpkins are an American alternative rock band that was founded in Chicago in 1988. Characterised by Billy Corgan's unique voice, melancholic melodies and a mixture of grunge, psychedelic rock and shoegaze, the band achieved worldwide fame in the 1990s. Their groundbreaking album Siamese Dream (1993) established them as one of the leading rock bands of their time, while the ambitious double album Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness (1995) with hits like 1979, Tonight, Tonight and Bullet with Butterfly Wings cemented her superstar status.

Despite creative highs and commercial success, the band was characterised by internal conflicts and changing line-ups. After disbanding in 2000, Billy Corgan returned in 2007 with a new line-up and continued The Smashing Pumpkins with new albums and tours. In recent years, some of the original members have reunited, delighting fans worldwide.

The band remains known for their cross-genre music and experimental approach. With melancholic lyrics, complex arrangements and powerful live performances, The Smashing Pumpkins have a loyal fan base and remain an important part of rock history to this day.
