Iggy Pop, born James Newell Osterberg Jr. on 21 April 1947, is considered one of the most influential figures in the history of rock and the "Godfather of Punk". His career began in the late 1960s as the frontman of the band The Stooges, whose raw energy and untamed style paved the way for punk rock. Albums like Raw Power (1973) and Fun House (1970) are now regarded as classics that set standards through their intensity and innovation.
After the Stooges split up, Iggy Pop embarked on a successful solo career and worked closely with David Bowie, who supported him on the albums The Idiot and Lust for Life (both 1977). With songs like The Passenger and Lust for Life Iggy Pop established himself as an unmistakable artist with a unique mix of punk, rock and experimental influences. His charismatic live performances, often characterised by ecstatic energy and uninhibitedness, made him a living legend.
Iggy Pop remains creative and relevant to this day. With albums like Post Pop Depression (2016), produced by Josh Homme, he shows that his artistic energy is undiminished. Iggy Pop embodies the essence of rock 'n' roll - uncompromising, original and timeless. His influence extends far beyond music and has shaped generations of artists and fans.
