**Cage the Elephant** is an American rock band formed in 2006 in Bowling Green, Kentucky, and internationally recognised for their alternative and experimental sound. The band, consisting of singer Matt Shultz, guitarist Brad Shultz, drummer Jared Champion, bassist Daniel Tichenor and lead guitarist Nick Bockrath, combine elements of garage rock, punk and blues in their music, developing a distinctive style in the process. With their self-titled debut album *Cage the Elephant* (2008) and hits such as *Ain't No Rest for the Wicked*, the band quickly reached a wide audience and became particularly popular in the USA and the UK.
Over the course of their career, Cage the Elephant have continued to develop their style and experiment with new sounds and themes. Albums such as *Thank You, Happy Birthday* (2011) and *Melophobia* (2013) show an increasing musical maturity and diversity and were critically acclaimed. In 2019, the band released the album *Social Cues*, which was both commercially and critically successful, earning them a Grammy for Best Rock Album. Their music often deals with emotional and personal themes, and Matt Shultz's dynamic stage presence enhances the energy their songs convey.
Live performances are a centrepiece of Cage the Elephant, as they are known for their energetic shows and interaction with the audience. With their cross-genre style and openness to musical change, the band has made a name for themselves in the rock scene and are recognised as one of the most influential alternative rock bands of recent years.
