"As I Lay Dying" is a well-known metalcore band from San Diego, California, USA. It was founded in 2000 by Tim Lambesis, a former guitarist of Society's Finest, and drummer Jordan Mancino. The band's name comes from the original English title of the novel "When I Was Dying" by William Faulkner.
The band has released seven albums, one split album and two compilation albums. Their fourth studio album "An Ocean Between Us" reached number 8 in the Billboard 200 and number 1 in the Top Rock Charts. They have performed at festivals such as Wacken Open Air, With Full Force, Soundwave Festival, Warped Tour, Bloodstock Open Air and Taste of Chaos.
The band has undergone several line-up changes over the years. The current line-up consists of Tim Lambesis (guttural vocals, vocals), Phil Sgrosso (rhythm guitar, studio piano), Ken Susi (lead guitar), Ryan Neff (electric bass, vocals) and Nick Pierce (drums).
Despite some controversy and challenges, including the arrest and conviction of Lambesis, the band has continued their musical journey and continued to release new music. Their latest album "Shaped by Fire" was released on 20 September 2019.
"As I Lay Dying" has had a significant impact on the metalcore scene and remains an important voice in the genre.
