Vola is a Danish progressive metal band that was founded in Copenhagen in 2006. The band has undergone several line-up changes over the course of its career and currently consists of three Danes - Asger Mygind (vocals and guitar), Martin Werner (keyboards) and Nicolai Mogensen (bass guitar) - and one Swede, Adam Janzi (drums).
The band was founded by singer and guitarist Asger Mygind and some friends and stabilised in 2006. They released their first EP, "Homesick Machinery", in 2008. After the first EP, there were some line-up changes, with Bloch and Scherfig being replaced by Nicolai Mogensen and Felix Ewert. The new line-up recorded a second EP, "Monsters", which the band self-released in 2011.
On 2 February 2015, Vola released her first album "Inmazes" on her own11. The album was later released physically on 16 September 2016 by Mascot Label Group. In 2018, the band played at Bloodstock Open Air and released their second studio album "Applause of a Distant Crowd" on 12 October 201811. Their third studio album "Witness" was produced by Asger Mygind and released on 21 May 2021.
Vola is described as a boundary-pushing progressive rock band that boldly works on combining art metal, electronica, rock and djent. With their second studio album "Applause of a Distant Crowd", the band began to integrate more electronic elements.
Vola has established itself as an influential band in the progressive metal scene and remains an exciting band to keep an eye on.
