Paolo Giovanni Nutini, born on 9 January 1987 in Paisley, is a Scottish singer and songwriter. His music is a mixture of indie rock, soul, pop, jazz, ska and folk, and his voice can vary between a rough register and soft singing.
His family has owned a takeaway in Paisley, near Glasgow, for four generations. Although his father hoped he would join the family business, Paolo worked towards a career in music from an early age. His talent was discovered by his grandfather, who taught him traditional Scottish folk songs, and his teacher at St Andrews Academy.
At the age of 17, he moved to London, where he regularly performed in pubs and record companies took notice of him. Shortly after his 18th birthday, Nutini signed his first record deal with Atlantic Records.
His debut album "These Streets" (2006) reached number three in the UK album charts. His follow-up album "Sunny Side Up" (2009) debuted at number one in the UK album charts. Both albums were certified five-times platinum by the British Phonographic Industry.
Five years later, Nutini released his third studio album "Caustic Love" in April 2014. The album received positive reviews from music experts and debuted at number one in the UK album charts. In July 2022, he released his fourth album "Last Night in the Bittersweet".
Among other honours, Nutini has received three BRIT Award nominations and an Ivor Novello Award nomination for his songwriting. In July 2014, he was described by the BBC as "arguably Scotland's biggest musician right now".
